1 package of lasagne noodles- consider the oven ready or fresh pasta so you don't have to cook the noodles
1 ½ to 2 lbs. lean ground beef
1 - 2 cloves of garlic
1 - 2 chopped onion
3 - 6 oz. cans of tomato paste
4 ½ c. water
2 tsp. salt
¼ tsp. pepper
2 oz. chopped mushrooms
1 ½ - 2 lbs. mozzarella cheese
½ c. parmesan cheese

Optional ingredient: 1 medium container of dry cottage cheese or ricotta cheese

Pan fry the meat until brown, drain fat.
Add garlic, onion, water, tomato paste, salt, pepper, mushrooms.
Cook slowly for 30 minutes stirring constantly
Cook lasagne (if you bought the ones you need to cook) according to directions on the package.
Arrange the layers: starting with the meat sauce, noodles, cheese, meat sauce, noodles, cheese until all the ingredients are used up.
End with the top layer of meat sauce.
Sprinkle with the parmesan cheese.
Cover with tinfoil and bake for 45 minutes at 350º- uncovering the pan at the 30 minute mark.
Let sit for 15-20 minutes before cutting and serving.

Optional ingredients: add the cottage cheese or ricotta cheese to the middle layer of the lasagne.
