1½ sticks butter or margarine
1 cup sugar
1 egg
1 teaspoon vanilla
2 cups sifted flour
¼ teaspoon allspice
1 cup chopped almonds (slivered or sliced ok)
½ cup strawberry jam (most of a 10oz jar)
Confectioners sugar

Directions:

Preheat over to 350º

Beat butter to cream it. Gradually beat in sugar. Add egg and vanilla. Beat well

Re-sift flour and allspice. Mix in almonds. Add to beaten mixture and stir to mix.

Spoon about ½ of the mixture into a 9" square pan. Spread with jam and top with rest of cookie mixture.

Bake in preheated oven for 40-45 minutes until delicately browned. Cool on a rack, cut into squares, dust with confectioners sugar.
