Directions:
Start by combining, in a medium size bowl, 3 cups of flour, softened Crisco, baking soda and baking powder. Using a mixer on low setting, mix well.

Next, in a separate larger bowl, mix eggs, milk, sugar and vanilla . Using a mixer on low setting, beat Well.

Gradually add dry mix into wet mix and using a mixer, mix well. Gradually add the additional ¾ cup of flour to the mixture. At this point, the batter should be slightly tacky.

Preheat oven to 350º.

Next, prepare the rolling surface by spreading some of the remaining flour to help in the rolling of the batter.

Rolling out the batter: Take small portions (approx. size: 1/2 a cup to 3/4 of a cup) and drop the ball to the rolling surface. Sprinkle a pinch or two of flour over the ball (this will make it easier to roll the batter). Roll out the ball into a log about a inch wide (or the width of a finger). Once rolled out, cut pieces on angle about an inch to an inch and a half long.

Place pieces on cookie sheet and bake for 20 minutes or until a light golden brown. If cookies, appear to be over cooked, reduce baking time by one minute.

While cookies are baking mix ingredients for icing together. After cookies are done baking, allow to cool and then ice making sure to cover the whole cookie.

Personal Notes:
Put ¾ of a cup of flour aside for firming up batter after all ingredients are combined. The remaining ¼ of a cup of flour set aside for aiding in the rolling out of the batter.

You may have to add flour to the rolling surface for each portion you roll. Also, remember to sprinkle flour on each ball before you roll it out.

Hint: Coating your cutting utensil with flour will make it easier to cut your cookie pieces.
