Ingredients:
4 egg whites
1 tsp. white vinegar
1 tsp. vanilla extract divided
1-1/4 c. sugar
dash salt
1/2 c. gr. hazelnuts

1-1/2 c. whipping cream
1/3 c. conf sugar
2-1/2 c. sliced fresh strawberries

6 oz (1 oz. ea.) semisweet chocolate
1 tsp. shortening

Directions:
Directions:
Place egg whites in large mixing bowl, let stand at room temp for 30 min.
Line baking sheet w/parchment paper. Trace two 8" circles 1/2" apart on paper; set aside.

Add vinegar, 1/2 tsp. vanilla & salt to egg whites; beat until soft peaks form. Add sugar, 1 T. at a time, beating until stiff peaks form. Spread over paper circles. Sprinkle w/hazelnuts ( I didn't use them); cut through meringues w/knife to swirl nuts. Bake at 375* for 30-35 minutes or until meringue is lightly browned. Cool on baking sheet. When cool, remove meringue from paper; store in air tight containers. In microwave melt chocolate & shortening until smooth. Cool to room temp. To assemble, place one meringue, flat side down on plate - spread w/1/2 chocolate. Beat cream until it thickens. Add conf. sugar & remaining vanilla. Beat until stiff peaks form (I used cool whip). Spread 1/2 over chocolate layer. Arrange sliced strawberries over whipped cream. Spread flat side of remaining meringue w/melted choc. Place choc. side over strawberries; spread w/remaining whipped cream. Refrigerate up to 4 hours before serving. Garnish w/halved strawberries. Serves 10-12.
