1 package of dates- chopped
1 cup boiling water
1 tsp. baking soda
1 egg beaten
1 cup sugar
1 T. butter- melted
1 tsp. salt
1 tsp. vanilla
2 cups shifted flour
1/2 cup walnuts- chopped

Directions:
Directions:
Mix dates, boiling water, and baking soda together and let stand for 30 minutes.

Mix egg, sugar, and butter together.

Once the dates are ready add: salt, vanilla, flour and walnuts.

Mix all ingredients well. Bake at 325 for 1 1/2 hours in greased 9 x 5 x 3 pan.

Let cool completely and remove from pan.
