Ingredients: 1 cup shortening 1/2 cup cocoa 4 eggs 2 cups sugar 1 1/2 cups flour 1 tsp. baking powder 1/2 tsp salt 2 tsp vanilla
1 box powdered sugar 1/2 cup cocoa 1 tsp. vanilla 1/2 cup butter 4 Tbsp milk Chopped pecans

Directions: |
Directions:Melt shortening with 1/2 cup cocoa. Cream together eggs, sugar. Sift together flour, baking powder and salt. Add cocoa mixture to eggs mixture; stir in dry ingredients. Add 2 tsp vanilla. Pour into a greased/floured rectangle pan. Bake at 350º for 30-40 minutes.
Icing: Beat 1/2 cup butter until creamy. Add vanilla. Sift powdered sugar and cocoa together; add this to butter alternating with milk to achieve smooth consistency.
Sprinkle with pecans. |

Notes: My mother used to make these brownies for the youth at Westfall Baptist Church in Pasadena, Texas. Mom and dad helped so many young people through the years by "listening" over a brownie and a coke at our house after church. I remembered this when I began teaching, and often made these brownies for my students as a reward or a "just because I care" moment.
