¼ c. olive oil
½ c. butter
1 cup chopped onion
1 pound ground beef
4 strips finely chopped bacon
4 cloves garlic, chopped fine
3 T. finely chopped fresh parsley
1 bay leaf, chopped fine
1 T. oregano
1 tsp. marjoram
1 T. salt (or to taste)
Pepper to taste
1 tsp. sugar
2 oz. red wine
2 15 oz. cans whole tomatoes
1 small can tomato paste
1 small can tomato sauce
1 cup water (more as needed)

Directions:
Directions:
Heat olive oil over low heat in a large pot. Add butter and simmer until melted. Then add onions and sauce until lightly browned. Add ground beef and bacon; saute until browned stirring occasionally.
Add garlic, parsley, bay leaf, salt, pepper. Stir, then add liquid ingredients, chopping up whole tomatoes while in the pot.

Cover and cook for at least one hour. Serve over your favorite pasta and sprinkle with parmesan cheese.
(Best if made in advance and reheated later). Also, the sauce can be frozen.
