Ingredients: 1 box of chocolate cake mix 1 ½ c. milk ¼ c. + 1 Tbs. flour 1 c. sugar 1 stick butter 1 c. shortening
Frosting: 1 stick butter 1 egg, beaten 1 tsp. vanilla 3 squares (3 oz) unsweetened chocolate, melted 2 Tbs. hot water 3 c. powdered sugar

Directions:Preheat oven to 350º.
Prepare cake mix according to the package directions. Pour mixture onto a greased and lightly floured 17x11 jelly roll pan. Bake for 20-25 minutes or until top springs back when touched. Cool.
Filling: Combine flour and milk in a saucepan. Cook on medium heat until thick. Cool. Blend sugar, butter and shortening. Add to milk and flour mixture and beat until fluffy.
Cut cooked cake into 2 rectangles. Place 1 layer on a serving platter. Spread filling on top. Top with another layer and refrigerate 1 hour.
Frosting: Combine butter, egg, vanilla, chocolate and hot water in a sauce pan. Stir over medium heat until butter is melted. Cook 1 min longer. Remove from heat and beat in powdered sugar. If frosting is too thick add a little hot water. Spread over top and sides of cake. |
