Make Dough

Ingredients:
Ingredients:
1/4 cup warm water
1 pkg. active dry yeast
3/4 cup lukewarm milk
1/4 cup sugar
1 tsp. sugar
1 eggs
1/4 cup shortening
3 1/2 - 3 3/4 cups flour

Directions:
Directions:
In bowl, dissolve yeast in water. Add milk, sugar, salt, egg, shortening, and 1 1/2 cups flour to yeast. Mix with spoon until smooth. Add enough remaining flour to handle easily. Turn onto lightly floured surface and knead until smooth (about 5 minutes). Grease bowl and place dough in bowl. Turn dough to have greased side up. Cover with cloth and let rise in warm place until double, about 1 1/2 hours. Punch down; let rise again until almost double, about 30 minutes.

Prepare Tea Ring

Ingredients:
Ingredients:
2 Tbsp. softened butter
1/2 cup sugar
2 tsp. cinnamon
1/2 cup raisins

Directions:
Directions:
Turn out twice-risen dough onto lightly floured surface and roll dough into oblong about 15 x 9 inches. Spread with 2 Tbsp. softened butter. Mix 1/2 cup sugar and 2 tsp. cinnamon and sprinkle over buttered dough. Sprinkle with 1/2 cup raisins. Roll up tightly, beginning at long side. Seal well by pinching edges of roll together. Place sealed-edge down in ring on lightly greased baking sheet. Pinch ends together. With kitchen scissors, make cuts 2/3 of the way through the ring at 1" intervals. Turn each section on its side. Let rise until double, 35-40 minutes. Bake in 375 degree oven for 25-30 minutes.

Ingredients:
1 cup confectioners sugar, sifted
1 tsp. vanilla
About 2 Tbsp. milk

Nuts
Candied cherries

Directions:
Directions:
Sift confectioners' sugar into bowl and add milk, stirring in a little bit at a time until icing reaches spreading consistency, adding more confectioners' sugar if needed. Add vanilla. While tea ring is still warm, frost with white icing. Decorate with nuts and candied cherries.

Makes 1 tea ring - about 12 servings.
