½ cup sugar
½ cup shortening
1 teaspoon salt
2 eggs
¾ warm water
2 packages yeast
4 cups flour

canned pie filling — apricot or poppyseed or cherry

melted butter in a small bowl

sugar / flour / butter crumble mixture in a small bowl


Directions:
Directions:
Mix the water and yeast and let activate. Mix that and the rest of the top ingredients together with a mixer. Cover and let rise. Shape into balls and let rise again. Flatten a ball and fill with a spoon of pie filling. Pinch the dough together and lift the dough by the pinched part, dip in melted butter and then in the sugar/flour/butter mixture. Place pinched side down on a cooking sheet. Repeat until all dough is used. Let rise again. Bake at 375º for 15-20 minutes.
