1 1/2 c. flour
1 c. sugar
1 tsp. soda
1/2 tsp. salt
3 Tbsp. cocoa
5 Tbsp. melted butter
1 tsp. vinegar
1 tsp. vanilla
1 c. cold water

Carmel Icing:

2 c. brown sugar (do not pack)
2 Tbsp. flour
5 Tbsp. cream or milk
butter (size of walnut)

Directions:

Mix dry ingredients in pan you plan to bake in.

Add melted butter, vinegar and vanilla.

Pour 1 cup cold water over this and mix well, but DON'T BEAT.

Spread even and bake at 350º (until toothpick comes out clean)


To make Carmel Icing:

Boil all ingredients until soft ball is formed.

Beat until ready to spread.

Spread on cooled cake.

Soft ball formation - In a large metal spoon, put a little cold water. Add a bit of the boiling icing. Rub between your fingers. If soft ball forms, it's ready. If not, keep boiling and keep checking.
