Crust:
3 c. all purpose flour
1 c. all vegetable shortening
1 tsp. salt
Ice cold water

Filling:
1 ˝ c. of sugar
˝ c. cocoa
1 tsp. vanilla

Butter

Directions:
Directions:
Mix salt into flour; cut in shortening. Blend well.
Add ice water until dough is rolling out consistency. Set aside and cover.
Mix cocoa, sugar, and vanilla. Add more sugar if you want it sweeter and more cocoa if you want more chocolate.
Flour a surface and start rolling out dough; cut out circles (I use a shortening lid).
Place about 1 to 2 spoonfuls of filling in the center of each circle; place a pat or two of butter on top.
Fold over and seal edges.
Fry in oil until golden, flipping once.
Drain on paper towels. Let cool for a few minutes and enjoy.

I loved Nanny’s fried pies!! This is not her crust recipe because she didn’t have one. She also didn’t cut out her pies that I can remember. I think she just pinched off some of the dough and rolled it into a circle as best she could. They were delicious!
