2 cups raisins
Enough water or water/rum combination to cover the raisins
4 cups flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
1½ teaspoons cinnamon
¼ teaspoon freshly grated nutmeg
2 teaspoons salt
1 cup plus 1 tablespoon Crisco
2 cups sugar
4 eggs
1 cup chopped pecans
2 teaspoons vanilla

Preheat oven to 350º
Cover cookie sheets with parchment paper
Bake 10 minutes, or until brown and firm

Bring raisins and water or water/rum combo to a boil in a small saucepan; simmer 10 minutes.

Whisk flour, baking powder, soda, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt.

Cream Crisco and sugar; add eggs one at a time.

Stir in vanilla; add pecans.

Drop by spoonfuls onto a parchment covered cookie sheet.

We hit the aversion jackpot with this recipe. Raisins and nuts! I hope future generations will try this delicious cookie. It was the most common cookie treat my mama baked when I was growing up.
