Notes: Grandma was kind, gentle and calm--a typical Potts person. Her mother and two sisters lived to be about 100 years old. My theory is that they were my flat-line progenitors. They probably also had low, low blood pressure, as I do. Sadly, Grandma was afflicted with Parkinsons Disease at some point in her 60s and died when she was 78. She loved words; the huge dictionary had its own stand. She and I looked up words just for fun. I was delighted when we found the word "Ichthyosaurus," a prehistoric sea creature. Yes, the definition of the creature was interesting, but I liked it mainly because it sounded like "icky."
Gardening was one of her passions. I have a vivid memory of the scent when I was close to the rose arbor, and the treat of picking juicy strawberries from her terraced bed. The huge elm tree in the back yard extended one of its branches for the swing, the joy of all the children in the family. I spent countless hours with Karen swinging under the canopy of branches and leaves. BUT--it was still burning hot, and it's a miracle we survived.
