1 t. salt
3/4 c. milk
3 t. baking powder (HEAPING!)
4 T. shortening

Directions:
Sift flour; measure; add baking powder and salt; sift again. Cut in the shortening with a pastry blender or two knives, blending it until the mixture resembles coarse corn meal. Stirring in with fork, add enough milk to make soft dough or until flour leaves sides of bowl and follows fork; continue stirring until all flour disappears. Turn out on board; knead lightly for about 1/2 min. Turn smooth side up and pat dough or roll 1/2 inch thick; cut with floured biscuit cutter. Transfer biscuits to an ungreased baking sheet; place 1" apart if crusty biscuits are desired or close together for softer biscuits with less crust.
Bake in hot oven (425 degrees) 12-15 min. Makes 14-16 2" biscuits.

From Mom
Karissa: Mom (Christine) always made these biscuits whenever we were having gravy. One night during our time on the lake, mom accidentally put in soda instead of powder and baked like normal. We then served ourselves up some nice biscuits and gravy and…they just did not taste right. I must have gotten a very odd look on my face as mom quickly took a bite and discovered what happened. We ate them that night and then decided to feed the ducks the rest. The ducks would not eat them…they just sat bobbing on the top of the lake until they became soggy and sunk. We still joke about those biscuits from time-to-time.
