1 cup sugar
2 cups flour
½ cup margarine
1 tsp. salt (optional)
1 cup sour milk
1 tsp. baking soda dissolved in milk
1 tsp. cloves
1 tsp. cinnamon
1 egg

Directions:
Directions:
Mix sugar, flour, margarine and salt. Keep ½ cup for top of cake. To  the  remaining  dry  ingredients,  add  the  milk,  soda,  cloves, cinnamon and egg. Mix well and pour into a greased 8X8 inch pan. Sprinkle the reserved ½ dry ingredients over cake. 
Bake at 350º F. for 35 to 40 minutes until a toothpick comes out clean.
You can sour milk by adding 1 TBSP vinegar and lemon juice.
