¾ cup shortening
1 cup sugar
¼ cup molasses
1 egg
2 cups flour
2 tsp baking soda
1 tsp cinnamon
½ tsp cloves
½ tsp ginger
¼ tsp salt
1 cup chopped raisins

Directions:
Directions:
Beat shortening and sugar til light and fluffy. Add molasses and egg and beat well. Combine flour, soda, cinnamon, cloves, ginger, and salt. Add to molasses mixture. Mix well and stir in raisins. Refrigerate 2-3 hours or longer. Use a 1¼" cookie scoop and roll into balls. Roll in sugar and place 2" apart on cookie sheet. Bake on second shelf from the bottom at 350º for 10-12 minutes. Cool 1 minute, then transfer to a wire rack. Do not overbake!
