Crumb Mixture
1½ cups rolled oats
⅓ cup butter
1 tsp. soda
1 cup flour
2 TBSP sugar
1 tsp. salt

Filling
½ pound dates
1 cup sugar
1 tsp. cornstarch
1 tsp. vanilla

Directions:
Directions:
Mix the crumb ingredients together. Set aside. Put dates in a pot and cover with water. Add the sugar and boil. Thicken with cornstarch. Cool and then add vanilla. Put half the crumbs in a 9X13 inch pan. Spread with the date filling. Sprinkle and put remaining crumb mixture on top. 
Bake at 375º F. for about 45 minutes or until golden. Cut in squares when cool.
