1 cup butter
1 cup brown sugar, packed
1 cup sugar
2 eggs
3 cups sifted flour
1/4 tsp salt
1 1/2 tsp baking powder
1 1/2 tsp baking soda
1/2 tsp vanilla extract
1 cup chopped nuts
1/2 cup chopped dates (optional)

Directions:
Directions:
Cream butter and sugars. Add eggs and beat until light. Sift together flour, salt, baking powder and soda and add to creamed mixture. Add vanilla, nuts and dates. Mix well. Shape into 2" rolls. Wrap in waxed paper. Let stand in refrigerator overnight or longer. Slice 1/2" thick. Bake on cookie sheet at 350 degrees about 12 minutes. This will keep for weeks in the refrigerator.
