2 c. all-purpose flour
1/2 c. sugar
1/2 c. packed light brown sugar
1/2 c. butter or margarine
1 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp ground cardamom
1/2 tsp salt
1/4 tsp baking soda
2 eggs
3/4 almond extract
20 whole almonds

Preheat oven 350

Into large bowl, add all ingredients except for whole almonds. With mixer on low speed, beat until just mixed, increase speed to medium and beat 2 minutes, occasionally scraping bowl with rubber spatula.

On lightly floured surface, divide dough into 20 equal pieces. With hands, roll dough into balls and place 2 inches apart on cookie sheets. With bottom of a glass, flatten each ball slightly, gently press a whole almond in center of each cookie.

Bake 12 - 15 minutes until lightly browned around the edges. Remove cookies immediately to wire rack to cool completely.
