1 cup milk
½ cup flour
2 sticks butter (softened)
1½ cups granulated sugar
1 tsp vanilla
1 cup walnuts - chopped (optional)

Directions:
Directions:
Place milk and flour in a heavy saucepan and whisk vigorously until smooth. Bring to a boil and boil for 1 minute stirring constantly. the mixture will be very stiff. Remove from heat and cool. With an electric mixer beat the butter, sugar and vanilla together for about 5 minutes until light and fluffy. Add the cooled milk and flour mixture and beat for 2 more minutes on high speed until the frosting is soft, light and fluffy. Add nuts if desired. Enough frosting for two 8 or 9 inch layer cake or a 13 x 9 inch cake. Refrigerate if not using right away.
