4 ½ cups sugar
pinch of salt
2 tablespoons butter
1 tall can (1⅔ cups) evaporated milk
12 ounces semisweet chocolate chips
12 ounces German's Sweet Chocolate cut into 1-inch pieces (find it with other baking chocolates on baking aisle)
1 7oz jar of marshmallow cream
2 cups chopped nuts
2 teaspoons pure vanilla

Liberally butter a 9-inch by 13-inch pan.
Put chocolate in a large mixing bowl.

Combine sugar, salt, butter, and milk in heavy saucepan; boil 6 minutes, stirring constantly. Pour boiling syrup over chocolate, marshmallow cream, and nuts. Beat with a wooden spoon until chocolate is melted; add Vanilla. Pour into the prepared pan. Cut into squares and store in an airtight container. I prefer to store it in the refrigerator.

Mamie Eisenhower is not known for her culinary prowess. And yet millions of families in the US copied her fudge recipe out of newspapers. Its ingredients were readily available in even the smaller grocery stores throughout the country. It remained the favorite fudge, particularly at Christmastime, or many families through the '50s and '60s. It was always included in my mother's panoply of delights.
