Ingredients:  
c. butter
1 c. sugar
2 eggs, beaten
1 c. milk
2 c. cake flour (such as, Sofsilk brand)
1 t. baking soda
1 t. salt
1 t. vanilla
2 squares melted baking chocolate (2 oz)

Directions:
Directions:
Cream butter and sugar. Add eggs. Alternate adding flour and milk. Mix well. Bake in greased 9" x 13" pan for 30 minutes at 350. For frosting use Ann Engman's frosting recipe in Salem cookbook.

This was the birthday layered cake that Grandma Esther would make us. It's one of the only cakes I have made from scratch. Use the cooked Chocolate fudge frosting referred to as Ann Engman's frosting for this cake.
