3 oz unsweetened chocolate, chopped
1 ½ sticks (12 oz) unsalted butter cut into small pieces
1 ½ cups sugar
3 large eggs
1 ½ tsp vanilla
½ tsp salt
½ cup all-purpose flour
¼ cup unsweetened cocoa
¾ cup walnuts (optional)

Directions:
Directions:
1. Preheat oven to 325º with rack in middle of oven.
2. Lightly grease pan and line with crisscrossed sheets of parchment paper or foil, leaving 1-inch overhangs.
3. Melt chocolate with butter in large metal bowl set over a pan of simmering water, stirring occasionally, until smooth.
4. Remove bowl from pan and let cool for 5 minutes.
5. Add sugar to the mixture and whisk well.
6. Add eggs, 1 at a time, whisking well after each addition until smooth.
7. Whisk in vanilla and salt.
8. Add flour and cocoa and whisk until batter is smooth.
9. Fold in nuts with a rubber spatula.
10. Spread batter evenly in pan and bake about 40 minutes.
11. Cool brownies completely in pan on a rack. To remove them easily from pan, use the parchment (or foil) overhangs to lift brownies out of pan.
