3 cups broccoli florets
½ stick sweet butter
1 cup finely diced onion
1 (14-oz) can chicken broth
1 cup milk
3 cups shredded cheddar cheese
¼ tsp pepper
1 tsp flour
Crumbled bacon

Directions:
Directions:
1. Steam or boil broccoli until tender (5 minutes). Chop into very small pieces and set aside.
2. In a large saucepan, melt butter over medium heat. Cook onions until softened, stirring, about 3 minutes.
4. Add flour to onions and stir 2 minutes until flour is well blended and toasted.
5. Slowly add broth and milk, stirring to incorporate flour smoothly,
6. Bring mixture to a boil and cook until slightly thickened (about 5 minutes).
7. Lower heat and stir broccoli, cheese, and pepper into soup until the cheese melts (2 minutes).
8. Ladle into soup bowls and garnish with crumbled bacon.
