1 stick margarine (I have always used margarine in these)
1 cup sugar
1 egg
1/2 cup vegetable oil
1/8 tsp salt
1 tsp vanilla
2 1/2 cup flour
1 tsp baking soda
1 tsp cream of tartar
Directions:
Directions:
Cream margarine and sugar, add egg and mix. Add oil, salt, and vanilla, mixing well. Add dry ingredients and mix well. Roll dough into 3/4 inch balls and roll in white sugar. Flatten cookies with a fork or a decorative cookie press. Bake at 350 degrees for 12-15 miutes.

I received this recipe from my best friend in college. I have made these all forty years of our marriage and shared this recipe with many along the way! I usually sprinkle colored sugar on the tops of the cookies for holidays before baking.
