4 tbsp Plain Flour
1 1/2 c. Sugar
Pinch of Salt
3 Egg Yolks from Large Eggs, separated
3 c. Milk
1 tsp. Vanilla
1 Box Vanilla Wafers, approximately 45 wafers
5-6 Bananas
3 Egg Whites from above
1/8 tsp. Cream of Tartar
1/4 c. Sugar
1 tsp. Vanilla

Preheat oven to 325

Combine flour, sugar, and salt in a large saucepan.

Lightly beat egg yolks and combine with milk in a large bowl. Add to saucepan and cook over low to medium heat, stirring constantly, until ingredients are thickened and smooth. Remove from hat and stir in vanilla.

Layer pudding in a 13 x 9 pan by placing wafers on bottom, followed by banana slices and 1/3 of custard. Repeat with 2 more layers.

Prepare meringue by whipping egg whites at high speed in a glass bowl. When they begin to get stiff, add cream of tartar and gradually add sugar. When stiff, add vanilla. Spread meringue over banana pudding, making sure to spread to the edges of the of the dish. Bake for about 25 minutes until meringue is lightly browned.

This is the classic banana pudding that Grandmas have been making for decades. I made it for a Viking event and it turned out great.
