Memories of the home in West Orange, New Jersey

Directions:
Directions:
There are shadows on the ceiling
and a wreath above the door -
Green fabric on the sofa
And red carpet on the floor.

There's a thimble on the andiron,
Chinese checkers behind the couch,
Grilled cheese upon the burner
And wicker on the porch.

There's meat pie in the oven
And see-saws in the park,
Plastic daffodils on the table
And fireworks in the dark.

Canned pears are in the attic,
Scones and shortbread in a tin -
Rose-of-Sharons in the garden
And buttons in the bin.

There's a big sink in the basement;
Hair drying in the yard.
Cambric tea is on the table
And Canasta's in the cards.

Bacon sandwiches for breakfast,
Salt and pepper at each plate-
Gray soup served in Fiesta bowls-
No one ever won a race.

Now Ashwood Terrace has passed on
But our memories are off the charts-
It's tea time up in heaven
And our Grandparents are in our hearts.
