Ingredients:
Ingredients:
1 stick butter
1/2 cup Crisco
2 cups sugar
6 eggs
2 cups PLAIN flour (self rising will rise and then fall- making a mess)
1/4 tsp. salt
1 Tbsp. vanilla or lemon flavoring

4 tbsp. cocoa if you want this to be chocolate cake - cut vanilla to 1 tsp.

Directions:
Directions:
This is a COLD oven recipe no need to preheat to 325 degrees but you can if you want, I don't.
Bake for 1 hour

Cream the butter and the crisco with your mixer- if the butter is cold, you will have to cut it into little pieces and let the mixer warm it up as it mixes.

Add the sugar and cream again

Add 3 eggs and beat really well
Add 1 cup of the flour a little at the time, beating as you mix
Add the last 3 eggs and beat again
Add the last cup of the flour a little at the time and beat as you mix.
Add flavoring or chocolate

I use a tube pan- the one with tall round center and make sure to grease it. To make the crust crunchy on the sides- instead of flour you can use sugar.

My sister Jaye found and modified a previous recipe while visiting my house. This has been a favorite of ours ever since and I shared it with all of Norfolk Southern safety committee.
