CHICKEN
1 medium onion, diced
1 T paprika
1 T salt
Whole chicken cut up OR 4 chicken breasts.

EGG DUMPLINGS
1 tsp salt
1 egg, beaten
½ c milk
1½ c flour
1 T sour cream

SAUCE
¼ c flour
¼ c flour
2-3 T sour cream
2T paprika

Directions:
Directions:
In a sauce pan, sauté onion in 1 T oil
Add paprika and salt
Add chicken to pan, browning on all sides
Add enough water to cover the chicken
Cover, cook on medium low for 45-60 minutes

Remove cooked chicken from the pan, bring the liquid to a simmer. Debone.
Mix the sauce ingredients and stir into liquid
Cook 10-15 minutes
Place chicken in liquid

Meanwhile...
Mix dumpling ingredients together
Bring a large saucepan of water to boil
Drop dumplings in the water by teaspoonful
Cook 15 minutes covered
Scoop dumplings from pan and put them in the chicken mixture

*If the sauce isn’t thick enough, add some more slurry

This is a delicious traditional Hungarian dish well worth the time and effort.

Shortcut:
Use deboned rotisserie chicken and frozen dumplings.
The sauce can be made using boxed chicken stock.
