6 medium potatoes
2 eggs (slightly beaten)
2 Tbsp flour
1 tsp salt
3 Tbsp shortening
Butter

Directions:
Directions:
Preheat the oven to 350F
Peel potatoes.
Grate potatoes into a bowl.
Add slightly beaten eggs, milk, flour and salt. Mix.
Melt 3 Tbsp shortening into a casserole. Coat casserole.
Pour mixture into the casserole and bake for 45 minutes or until crisp and brown.
Brush top with butter and place back in the oven to give a golden brown top.

Traditionaly in Germany and in New Ulm, Döch is served during Lent. It’s served with apple sauce or topped with thickened sauerkraut.
During Lent it’s a main dish, other times of the year it’s a side dish.
I remember Grandma Schnobrich served it with canned pears.
