Aunt Frances


Pour 1 c boiling water over 1 c chopped dates and 1 teasp soda
Let stand while the following is mixed in the usual manner
1 c sugar
1/4 c butter
1 beaten egg
1 tsp vanilla
1 1/2-2 c sifted flour
1 tsp baking powder
1/2 t salt
1/2 c nuts

Add to above mixture and bake 35 minutes in moderate oven in 8 x 10 pan
5 tbs brown sugar
5 tbs cream
2 tbs butter
Boil three minutes and spread on cake. Sprinkle with coconut or nuts
