3 egg whites
¾ cup sugar
½ teaspoons cream of tartar
1 teaspoon vanilla, divided
1 pint whipping cream
3 cups sliced fresh strawberries

Directions:
Directions:
Beat egg whites until stiff. Fold in sugar, cream of tartar and ½ teaspoon vanilla. Cover cookie sheet with brown paper or parchment paper. Drop by tablespoons on to paper. Place in 400° oven. Turn off heat . Leave meringues in oven 4 hours or overnight. Do not open oven door. When ready to serve, whip cream and add remaining ½ teaspoon vanilla. Break meringues and mix with whipped cream and strawberries. Especially pretty served in stemmed glasses.

This is Caroline, Rob and Jim's favorite dessert - "Strawberry Goop," as they call it. The original recipe says this recipe yields 8 servings - Caroline, Jim and Rob could eat it all and beg for more. It's good.
