2 cups sugar
½ cup butter
½ cup Crisco
5 eggs, separated
2 cups sifted flour
1 teaspoon soda
1 cup buttermilk
1 cup chopped walnuts
2 teaspoons vanilla
1 small can coconut (1⅓ cups)

ICING:
1 box 10-X powdered sugar
1 8-ounce package cream cheese
¼ cup butter
½ cup chopped walnuts
1 teaspoon vanilla

Directions:
Directions:
Cream sugar, butter and Crisco.

Add egg yolks, one at a time.

Add soda to buttermilk and mix alternately with flour.

Add coconut, vanilla and nut meats.

Fold in stiffly beaten egg whites.

Divide into three-layer cake pans and bake at 325º for 25-35 minutes.

Icing: Mix 10-X sugar, cream cheese and butter with beater, then add chopped walnuts and vanilla.
