Directions:
Cook first 5 ingredients over medium heat in double boiler or heavy pan, until it forms a SOFT BALL in cold water. (Drop small amt in ice water in cup. Roll the mixture around with finger until you can get it to hold together in a soft ball). STIR CONSTANTLY. Take off heat and add vanilla and butter. Beat until thick enough to spread.

Personal Notes:
Personal Notes:
This is the chocolate fudge icing made for her yellow cakes, also the pink and yellow cake she would make (put coloring in one layer).

Jim made candy one year reading the instructions to "come to a soft ball". He thought it meant "come to a soft boil" and was a typo. Needless to say, that candy was spread ALL over the kitchen table on sheets of waxed paper when I got off from 3-11 shift!
