3 cups flour
2 tsp baking soda
2 tsp ground ginger
2 tsp ground cinnamon
1 tsp ground nutmeg
½ tsp ground cloves
1 cup dark molasses
2 eggs lightly beaten
½ cup unsalated butter
1 cup sugar
1 cup buttermilk

Grease and flour a 13x9x2 pan- glass is best

Mix first 6 dry ingredients together in a medium bowl. Combine molasses and eggs in another. Cream butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Add molasses mixture, beat just until blended. Mix in ⅓ dry ingredients alternately with ⅓ buttermilk; repeat with ⅓ of each then the last ⅓ of each.Spread batter in dish.

Bake at 350º 35 minutes or until cake springs back when pressed lightly. While cake bakes, make topping
 

Pecan Topping


Ingredients:

2 cups coarsely chopped pecans
6 Tbsp butter
6 Tbsp sugar
2 Tbsp flour
2 Tbsp milk

Directions:
Directions:
Combine all ingredients in a saucepan. Bring to a boil, over medium high heat, stirring occasionally.

Pre heat broiler. Spread hot topping over gingerbread. Broil at least 2" from heat source until top is light brown, approx 1 minute.
