1 cup shortening
2 cups sugar
4 eggs
2½ cups all-purpose flour
1/2 cup self-rising flour
1 cup milk
1 tsp each: vanilla, lemon and almond extract

Directions:
Preheat oven to 325º
Cream sugar and shortening on high with stand mixer until sugar dissolves. (10 to 15 minutes)
Add eggs one at a time and beat after each until fluffy. Add milk and flour on slow speed, just to mix.(start and end with flour) Add flavorings. Bake in greased, floured tube pan for 1 hour 15 minutes.
*To make this cake only larger: use 1 cup shortening and 1 stick butter, 3 cups sugar, 6 eggs, 1 cup milk, 3 cups all-purpose flour and 1/2 cup self-rising flour, 1 teaspoon vanilla, lemon and almond extract. Mix as above and bake same length of time. Cool in pan about 10 minutes before turning out on wire rack to completely cool.

I like to mix 1/4 cup water with 1/2 cup sugar, 1 tsp vanilla and 1 tsp almond extract in small sauce pan. bring to boil and spoon over hot cake.
