1 cup butter
½ cup shortening
16 ounce box light brown sugar
1 cup sugar
5 large eggs
3 cups all purpose flour
½ teaspoon salt
½ teaspoon baking powder
1 cup milk
1 tablespoon vanilla flavoring
1 cup chopped pecans

Directions:
Directions:
Cream shortening and butter; add brown sugar, a little at a time, beating well. Add white sugar and beat until light and fluffy. Add eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition. Sift flour, salt and baking powder together; add to creamed mixture alternately with milk. Stir in vanilla and nuts. Bake in a greased and floured tube pan at 325º for 1½ hours.

Be sure to cook this long enough! I once made this for a church bake sale, and it would not come out of the pan because I didn't cook it long enough. I sold it anyway, in the pan and it was a big hit!
