2 cups butter
2 cups sugar
1/4 teaspoon salt
2-3 cups semi-sweet chocolate chips
1 cup almonds, finely chopped
1/2 teaspoon vanilla

Directions:
Directions:
Butter a 9x13 inch pan.
Spread one-half of almonds over pan
Melt butter and combine with sugar and salt.
Cook, stirring occasionally, until mixture boils and becomes dark amber color (color of brown paper bag) and temperature has reached 285 degrees F (137 degrees C). (If butter separates, add 1 tablespoon water.)
Test doneness by dropping a bit of toffee in ice water and see if it hardens.
Pour butter mixture onto prepared pan layered with almonds.
Sprinkle chocolate chips over top to melt and spread into a thin layer.
Press rest of almonds lightly into chocolate.
Place toffee in refrigerator to chill until set.
Break into pieces and store in air-tight container.
