"As I ate the oysters with their strong taste of the sea and their faint metallic taste that the cold white wine washed away, leaving only the sea taste and the succulent texture, and as I drank their cold liquid from each shell and washed it down with the crisp taste of the wine, I lost the empty feeling and began to be happy, and to make plans."--Ernest Hemingway

Directions:
While rice is cooking, fry bacon slow; to crispy. Remove bacon and drain. Allow oil to cool slightly and then add onion and saute until tender. Remove onions and drain.Leave enough drippings in pan to mix with flour creating a thin consistency. Cook over low heat, stirring constantly until lightly browned. Add juice from beans and enough water to make 1 cup of liquid. Cook until slightly thickened; add beans, bacon, onion, and other seasonings. Add rice until dish is the consistency you like (we use 3-4 cups cooked rice). Mix ingredients well and taste. Add additional chili powder or salt to your taste. (We like ours spicy!)
