3 cups self rising flour
A right smart handful of hog lard (or a half cup shortening)
1 cup milk

Directions:

Grandma put the flour in a large bowl, made a well in the center of it, and added the lard and milk to it. Blend it all together and roll it out. Cut out small biscuits, a tin can works well. Bake in a 425 degree oven until golden brown.

Grandma also would use flour, baking powder, salt, lard and clabber. The clabber make the biscuits light and fluffy.
