½ cup Crisco shortening
1 stick margarine
3 cups sugar
5 eggs
3 cups all-purpose flour
½ teaspoon baking powder
1 cup whole milk or half and half
1 teaspoon vanilla (or lemon) extract

Directions:
Directions:
Cream butter, shortening and sugar. Add one egg at a time beating after each one. Sift flour and baking powder into creamed mixture. Alternate with flour mixture and milk. Add vanilla.. Grease tube pan and flour. Pour cake batter into tube pan. Put cake in a cold oven and bake at 350º for 1 hour and 15 minutes. Do Not Open Oven Door unless it has been baking an hour. Cool 10-15 minutes and remove cake from the pan.
