1 box of white cake mix
1 tube of almond marzipan

1 can of tart cherries in own juice
1 TBS cornstarch
¾ cup powdered sugar


Buttercream frosting:

2 sticks butter
4½ cups powdered sugar
1 tsp vanilla
1 tsp almond
5 to 6 TBS milk
Dash of salt

Directions:
Directions:
Make white cake according to box directions in two 9 inch cake greased cake pans
Almond Filling:
Take marzipan out of silver tube and roll to a 9 inch circle.

Cherry topping:
Pour the can of cherries with the juice in sauce pan. Cook on medium heat.
Mix 1 TBS cornstarch with 1 TBS cherry juice until dissolved then pour in saucepan with cherries. Add powdered sugar.
Continue to cook until juice thickens. More cornstarch/water mixture may be needed to create the thick sauce.
Take off heat and add 1 tsp almond extract.

Frosting:
In mixing bowl, beat butter until creamy. Beat in confectioner’s sugar, vanilla , almond extract and enough milk to achieve desired consistency

To assemble:
Place one cake circle on a pretty plate. Place the almond marzipan disc on top of cake. Then spread a small amount of frosting on marzipan. Then place second cake circle on top. Frost the two layered cake with the buttercream frosting. Then, pour the cherry mixture on the top cake.
