PREHEAT OVEN TO 375º

3/4 CUP BUTTER
2 EGGS
1/2 CUP BROWN SUGAR
1/2 CUP WHITE SUGAR
3/4 CUP SOUR MILK
1 TSP BAKING SODA
2 CUPS FLOUR, - MIX IN 1 TBLS CINNAMON, 1/4 TSP SALT, 1/2 TBSP EACH NUTMEG, ALLSPICE AND CLOVES
1/2 CUP RAISINS, CUT IN HALF
1/2 CUP NUTS
2 CUPS OATMEAL

Cream butter; add sugars, and eggs and beat until smooth. Dissolve baking soda in milk. Add dry ingredients to mix, alternating with liquid. Add nuts and raisins; stir in oatmeal. Drop by rounded tsp full onto greased cookie sheets. Bake for 12 - 15 minutes.

To make the sour milk for this recipe, take one cup of milk, less two tablespoons. Add two tablespoons of lemon juice and mix well. Grandma also used to soak her raisins before she cut them. Put the raisins in a cup and add enough hot water just to cover them. Leave them for about 10 minutes. Drain the liquid and then cut them in half.
