1 small onion, chopped
1 small green pepper, diced
1 T cooking oil
1 can (15 oz) red kidney beans, drained
1.5 c water
1/2 c barbecue sauce (I like Sweet Baby Rays--original)--this is what the recipe calls for, I like to use more, but use it to your taste
1/4 t garlic powder
1.5 c white rice (it doesn't seem like it should matter, but I think this tastes better with white instead of brown rice)

1. Cook and stir onion and pepper in the oil in a sauce pan until tender.
2. Stir in beans, water, BBQ sauce, and garlic powder. Bring to a boil.
3. Stir in rice, cover. Remove from heat and let stand 5 minutes.
4. Fluff with fork and serve.
