THANKSGIVING'S WAY
On the day before Thanksgiving, the kitchen's in display
with pots and pans and dishes that aren't used everyday
Out come baking pans and tins; fancy bowls from 'put away'
measuring cups, the rolling pin...the roasting pan..."Hooray!"
The apron's tied and patted down, the counters cleared away
it's time to roll out pie dough for Thanksgiving day's array...
Apples peeled, and in the crust...cherry filling too...
the pumpkin custard's pouring in ...Look! There's quite a few...
Cranberry sauce is bubbling,,low, in Grandma's special way
stuffing bread is piled high, and drying out today...
Giblets cooking on the stove will make the gravy stock
The pies bake in the oven...slow, while Grandma checks the clock...
Tradition's laid a menu plan that truly can't be beat
Today's the preparation for tomorrow's festive feast...
Fresh rolls are made, and rising, too...they'll soon make their way
into that crowded oven.....'one more task complete'...she'll say
so, come Thanksgiving morning, with preparations done
that big old stuffed-full turkey will be the oven's final one...
Last minute mashed potatoes, squash and turkey gravy, too...
will take its place among the feast, with pickles, crisp, and new
It's just the best in all the world: this autumn holiday
when Grandma puts her apron on and cooks Thanksgiving's Way....
