2 cups sugar
1 teaspoon baking soda
1/8 teaspoon salt
1 cup buttermilk
2 Tablespoons butter
1 Tablespoon white karo
2-1/2 cups pecan halves

Directions:
Directions:
Bring first 4 ingredients to a boil in a heavy 4-quart saucepan, stirring constantly. Boil, stirring constantly, 5 minutes or until 210º on a candy thermometer. Stir in butter, karo, and pecans. Return to a boil and boil, stirring constantly, 5 minutes or until 232º on candy thermometer.

Remove from heat; beat with a wooden spoon 1-2 minutes or just until mixture begins to thicken. Quickly drop by tablespoons onto wax paper; let stand until firm. Store in an air-tight container. Yield: 2.5 dozen.

Note: Have a friend help spoon out these pralines, because they harden quickly.
