Directions:This is a very basil infused sauce. You can use less basil if you do not like a sweeter sauce.
In a large sauce pot, cover the bottom of the pot with olive oil, add the diced onion and four cloves of garlic and fry until golden. Add the two cans of tomato paste, and using the cans, add four cans of water. Stir until well blended. Simmer for about 10 minutes. Add 2-3 tsp. of dried basil, parsley, and garlic powder. Add 2 tsp. of salt and pepper. Stir well. Add the large can of puree and 2 cans of water. Stir well. Add 1/2 cup of sugar and 1 tsp. baking soda. The baking soda reduces the acidity of the tomatoes. Simmer on low until sausage and meatballs are ready for the sauce.
Meatballs: I use meatball mix which has ground beef, veal, and pork. Place in a bowl and add 2 eggs, 1 1/2 cups of Italian bread crumbs, and 1/2 cup Romano cheese. Mix well. Roll into meatballs and place on a cookie sheet and bake at 350º until brown.
Sausage: In a fry pan, cover bottom with olive oil and add water. Cook sausage until brown.
Add the sausage and some of the grease from sausage into the sauce. Add the meatballs. Add some of the oil from the meatballs to the sauce. Stir well. Add 10-12 chopped basil leaves, and bunch of chopped parsley. You can add or subtract spices to your taste.

Notes: Everyone has their favorite sauce. This sauce is on the sweeter side. You can make it more hot than sweet by eliminating the amount of basil, and increasing the pepper, and hot sausage.
