½ c. butter or margarine
½ c. shortening
1¾ c. sugar
4 eggs
1 tsp. vanilla
1 tsp. almond flavoring
3 c. flour
1½ tsp. baking powder
½ tsp.salt

Directions:
Directions:
Cream the butter, shortening, and sugar. Add the rest of the ingredients and beat until smooth. Reserve 1½ cups of batter and spread the rest in a large, 11 x 17-inch greased jelly roll pan. Spread one can of cherry or blueberry pie filling over batter. Spoon remaining batter over cherry layer in teaspoons, making small islands.

Bake at 350 degrees for 40-45 minutes. Before serving, sprinkle with powdered sugar.

This recipe freezes well.
