1 cup brown sugar
½ cup shortening
1 egg
1½ cup applesauce
2 tsp soda added to 3 Tbsp vinegar
½ tsp salt
1 tsp cinnamon
1tsp ground cloves
2 Tbsp molasses
2½ cup flour

Directions:
Directions:
Preheat oven to 350º . Grease and flour tube pan. In a medium bowl, sift together the flour, cinnamon, cloves and salt. Set aside. In a large bowl, cream the sugar and shortening until fluffy. Add applesauce and molasses and mix in. Add the soda and baking soda. Gradually add the flour mixture and beat well to moisten.
Pour into a prepared tube pan. Bake at 350º for 45 minutes, or until toothpick inserted into the middle of cake comes out clean. Cake will not rise to top of pan. Cool for 10 minutes and remove from pan and cool on wire rack.
